Description

Tamoxifen Citrate is a nonsteroidal agent which has demonstrated potent antiestrogenic properties in animal test systems. The antiestrogenic effects may be related to its ability to compete with estrogen for binding sites in target tissues such as breast. Tamoxifen inhibits the induction of rat mammary carcinoma induced by dimethylbezanthracene (DMBA) and causes the regression of already established DMBA-induced tumors. In this rat model, tamoxifen appears to exert its antitumor effects by binding the estrogen receptors. It is also recognized that tamoxifen displays estrogenic like effects on several sites including the endometrium, bone and lipids.

Tamoxifen Citrate has been used medically for decades and has been highly successful in breast cancer treatment, specifically hormone-responsive breast cancer. It is also a medication that is used by many anabolic steroid users, but it is not a steroid. This is a drug steroid users will sometimes use during steroid use to help with estrogenic related side effects brought on by specific steroids. However, it is most commonly used during Post Cycle Therapy (PCT). PCT is the 3-6 week period following steroid use that is implemented in order to help with natural testosterone production that is suppressed during anabolic steroid use.

Tamoxifen has mixed estrogenic antagonist and agonist properties. Tamoxifen binds to estrogen receptors (ER) and induces conformational changes in the receptor. For example, tamoxifen stimulates ER in bone and may actually prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis and has antiestrogenic effects on breast tissue. The ability of tamoxifen and other drugs to produce both estrogenic and antiestrogenic affects is most likely due to interaction with other coactivators or corepressors in the tissue and binding with different estrogen receptors, ER-alpha or ER-beta. The tissue distribution of ER-alpha and ER-beta suggest different functions for these receptors.

The discovery of tamoxifen citrate as a treatment for gynecomastia has ever since attracted the bodybuilding community. In fact, it has already been practiced to take tamoxifen citrate as a post steroid cycle drug to combat the body’s undesirable effects with steroids. Normally, most body builders take advantage of steroids so that they can easily grow muscles, especially when they are preparing for a big competition. Taking steroids may take some time before the athletes can actually verify the outcomes. But of course taking the drug alone will not guarantee great results if not combined with the right nutrition and intensive trainings.

Although using steroids is the easiest way out to get into a great shape, there are pitfalls when you do not know how to manage the after effects of using the drugs. Normally, when steroid is being injected into the body it lessens the number of androgens. The decreased levels of androgens will cause the body to counteract with the effect by increasing the female hormone which is estrogen. Once the steroid is stopped it will take the body a while to balance again the hormones and thus the side effects are experienced. Among the undesirable effects are the increased fats in particular areas of the body and the development of gynecomastia. To manage these problems, taking tamoxifen citrate will help.
